November has a way of reminding us to slow down, doesn't it?
After months of busy schedules, changing seasons, and what sometimes feels like a never-ending to-do list, we finally arrive at a month that encourages us to pause and give thanks.
I don't know about you, but I can easily get caught up in what's next. The next project, the next holiday, the next thing that needs my attention. And before I know it, I've rushed right past some pretty wonderful moments happening in front of me.
That's one thing I love about Thanksgiving. It's a gentle reminder that life isn't just about what's ahead, but also about appreciating what's already here.
Gratitude doesn't mean everything in life is perfect. It simply means we're choosing to recognize the goodness of God, even in the midst of the imperfect.
Some seasons are filled with blessings we can easily count. Others require us to look a little harder. Maybe this year has brought unexpected changes, difficult goodbyes, unanswered prayers, or simply a few more challenges than you anticipated.
But even in those seasons, there's something beautiful about stopping long enough to recognize the ways God has carried us through.
One of my favorite reminders comes from Scripture:
"Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever." — Psalm 107:1 (NIV)
Notice that Scripture doesn't tell us to give thanks only when life is going according to plan. We're reminded to give thanks because He is good. And that goodness doesn't change with our circumstances.
Something Delicious for Your Thanksgiving Table
Maple Balsamic Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon & Pecans
Sweet, savory, and just the right amount of crunch!
Now, I know Brussels sprouts aren't everyone's favorite vegetable but hear me out! When they're roasted until golden and crispy, tossed with a little maple syrup and balsamic glaze, and finished with crunchy pecans and bacon, they might just win over a few skeptics at your Thanksgiving table!
This is one of those dishes that looks impressive but doesn't require hours in the kitchen. And let's be honest, we could all use a few more recipes like that during the holidays!
Ingredients
-
1½ lbs. fresh Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved (you can buy fresh cut ones in a bag to save time)
-
3 tablespoons olive oil
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
-
5 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
-
½ cup chopped pecans
-
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
-
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
-
¼ cup dried cranberries (optional, for a festive touch)
-
Balsamic glaze for drizzling (optional)
Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Wash, trim, and halve the Brussels sprouts. Pat them completely dry so they'll roast beautifully.
-
Toss the sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread them in a single layer on your baking sheet, cut side down.
-
Roast for 20 minutes, until the bottoms begin turning golden and crispy.
-
Remove from the oven, add the chopped pecans, and gently toss. Return to the oven for another 5–8 minutes, until the sprouts are tender and the pecans are toasted.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and balsamic vinegar.
-
Transfer the warm Brussels sprouts to a serving dish. Toss with the maple-balsamic mixture, crispy bacon, and dried cranberries.
-
Finish with a light drizzle of balsamic glaze, if desired, and serve warm.
Serves: 6
A little tip from the kitchen: If you're preparing Thanksgiving dinner, trim and halve your Brussels sprouts the day before. You can also cook the bacon ahead of time. That way, all you have to do is roast, toss, and serve!
A Little Thanksgiving Challenge
Before the month slips away, here's something I'd love for each of us to try.
Take a few minutes and write down three things you're grateful for. Not necessarily the big, obvious blessings, but perhaps the little things you might otherwise overlook.
Maybe it's a friendship that has encouraged you, a stranger who showed you kindness, an unexpected opportunity, or simply the peace of knowing God is still working in your life.
And then, here's the fun part: Tell someone why you're thankful for them.
Send the text. Make the phone call. Write the note. Invite someone to share a meal.
We never know how much a simple expression of gratitude might mean to someone else.
From My Heart to Yours
As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, I want to say how incredibly grateful I am for YOU.
Purpose + Passion Boutique has always been about more than the things on our shelves. My hope has been to create a place where shopping has meaning, where relationships matter, and where even the smallest purchase can serve a greater purpose.
Whether you've shopped with us for years, recently discovered our little boutique, shared a kind word, or simply cheered us on from afar, please know how much your support means.
You are part of the story God continues to write through Purpose + Passion, and that's something I never want to take for granted.
So, here's to a November filled with grateful hearts, full tables, meaningful moments, and a little extra grace for us and others.
Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
With love and gratitude,
Kristin
